UltraTech Cement Activates Wind Farm Component of Rajasthan Hybrid Project
UltraTech Cement has brought online 116.55 megawatts of wind generation at a hybrid renewable facility in Barmer, Rajasthan, complementing earlier solar capacity additions. Including a new 10-megawatt waste heat recovery system in Karnataka, the company's total green energy capacity now reaches 2,024 megawatts, meeting nearly half its electricity demand. UltraTech targets increasing green energy's share of power consumption to 85 percent by 2030.
UltraTech Cement's latest renewable installations represent a significant expansion of the company's clean energy infrastructure. The wind facility in Barmer joins previously developed solar capacity at the same hybrid site, while the waste heat recovery system in Karnataka captures energy typically lost during cement production processes. Together, these projects bring the company's total green capacity to over 2,000 megawatts across multiple technologies and locations.
The company has already demonstrated the viability of renewable-powered cement production, with its Chhattisgarh facility achieving full renewable electricity coverage on a monthly basis since spring 2026. With nearly half its current power demand now met through green sources, UltraTech's stated goal of reaching 85 percent renewable energy by 2030 suggests continued infrastructure investment across India's cement sector.
UltraTech's renewable energy expansion could influence industry standards for large-scale industrial decarbonization in India. As one of the country's major cement producers, the company's transition may demonstrate technical and economic feasibility to competitors, potentially accelerating sector-wide adoption of hybrid renewable systems and waste recovery technologies. Such shifts could reduce industrial emissions while affecting regional energy markets and employment in both renewable and traditional power generation.
