Amazfit's T-Rex Dual Solar gathers light from both sides to stretch smartwatch runtime

Amazfit has introduced the T-Rex Dual Solar in China, a rugged smartwatch priced at 4,499 yuan with a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen, sapphire glass, titanium parts, offline maps, and 10 ATM water resistance. Its unusual feature is solar charging on both the front and rear, which the company says can extend typical 25-day battery life to 34 days with front solar exposure or 51 days with rear exposure under specific light conditions. The design is aimed at outdoor users who want fewer charging stops rather than replacing conventional charging.
Amazfit's new rugged model is listed in China at 4,499 yuan. It pairs a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen with sapphire glass, Grade 5 titanium parts, offline maps, and 10 ATM water resistance. Its dual-sided solar setup places collection hardware at the front and a larger glass-ceramic rear collector.
Amazfit rates typical runtime at 25 days. With three daily hours of 50,000-lux light, front exposure may reach 34 days, while rear exposure may reach 51. These are test-condition figures, not guaranteed daily results; GPS, screen brightness, workouts, notifications, weather, and settings affect endurance.
For outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, campers, and trail runners, this watch may reduce charging interruptions on longer trips, potentially making solar assistance a more practical backup than a primary power source. Its price and China launch could limit initial reach, while the dual-sided design may encourage rivals to explore similar approaches. Everyday users might see little change unless they spend extended time in strong sunlight, since test-condition gains depend on weather, positioning, and usage.
