Power Trip Return with First New Songs After Riley Gale’s Death

Power Trip released the double single 'Precinct 3' / 'Scavenger,' their first new music since frontman Riley Gale died in 2020. The Texas thrash-metal band recorded the tracks with new vocalist Seth Gilmore and co-producer Jacob Hansen. They are also working on a full-length album expected in spring 2027.
The Texas thrash outfit’s previous album was 2017’s Nightmare Logic. The new pair was tracked at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas, with Jacob Hansen and guitarist Blake Ibanez sharing production duties. Seth Gilmore now handles lead vocals.
Gale died in August 2020 from pulmonary edema caused by an unintentional fentanyl overdose. Power Trip played an unannounced five-song performance with Gilmore in December 2023. Upcoming appearances include a Slayer show in Mexico City, Sick New World in Fort Worth, and Pantera’s New Orleans event. A full-length record is planned for spring 2027.
For longtime fans, the release may serve as both a tribute and a test of how Power Trip’s legacy evolves with a new frontman. The metal community could see renewed attention around the band’s catalog and upcoming festival appearances, while Gilmore may face scrutiny and support as he steps into a role tied to Gale’s memory. The planned album could shape how newer listeners encounter the group, though reactions may vary.
