Kapta Space Secures $24M Series A for Advanced Radar Payloads
Seattle-based Kapta Space has raised $24 million in Series A funding, bringing its total raised since 2022 to $30 million. The round was led by Washington Harbour Partners and Bison Ventures, with additional backing from several other investors. The company plans to use the capital to produce low-cost moving target indication radar payloads for classified missions, with a design intended to track moving objects across land, air, and sea and potentially support missile tracking.
Kapta Space, a Seattle company founded in 2022, has raised $30M total after a $24M Series A. Washington Harbour Partners and Bison Ventures led, joined by MetaVC Partners, MYDA Advisors, Entrada Ventures, Aurelia Foundry, and Fitz Gate Ventures. The money will help produce lower-cost radar payloads for moving-target indication, serving classified missions secured this year.
CEO Milton Perque said two prominent demonstration missions are in progress, with a spaceflight record expected in 24–36 months. The payload uses electronic steering to keep continuous track of moving objects over land, air, and sea, and may support tracking missiles during midcourse flight. Its modular design means a smaller variant could offer SAR capability.
Kapta’s lower-cost radar payloads could expand access to space-based moving-target tracking, affecting government agencies, satellite operators, and defense contractors. If successful, improved midcourse missile tracking may strengthen warning systems, while modular SAR options could support smaller Earth-observation missions. Broader orbital radar coverage may also intensify debates over surveillance, privacy, and strategic stability, though actual societal effects will depend on deployment scale, mission use, and oversight.
