Blumhouse Turning Viral Horror Game Amanda the Adventurer Into a Movie

At New York Comic Con's Blumfest panel, Blumhouse announced it is developing a film based on the viral horror game Amanda the Adventurer. MatPat is producing the adaptation and has signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse, while Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald is also attached as a producer. Jason Blum said the studio is in talks with writers and directors, and the project has been in the works for about a year.
Blumhouse revealed the project during its Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con 2026. The adaptation follows the studio's earlier success with another game-based horror property, Five Nights at Freddy's. MatPat, a former YouTuber, will produce and has entered a first-look agreement with Blumhouse. Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald is also producing.
Jason Blum said the team is speaking with potential writers and directors. The film has been in development for roughly a year and is reportedly progressing quickly. The original game is a viral horror title known for mixing children's television imagery with unsettling elements.
The adaptation could draw existing fans of the game and horror audiences, potentially expanding Blumhouse's video-game slate. It may also introduce the source material to viewers unfamiliar with online horror games. If successful, it could encourage more studios to option viral games, though reception and box-office results would shape that effect. Audiences and creators involved may see increased attention, while the game's community could gain broader visibility.
