Cambodian Adaptation of Korean Drama 'Wedding Dress' Tops Abnormal Studios' Busan Lineup

Malaysia's Abnormal Studios is presenting a Cambodian-language remake of the 2010 South Korean film 'Wedding Dress' as its main title at the Busan market. Set in Phnom Penh, the story follows Dalin, a bridal gown designer whose focus on work strains her relationship with her young daughter, Mina. After a terminal diagnosis, Dalin begins preparing for the child's future without her.
The project reimagines Kwon Hyung-jin’s 2010 Korean feature for a Cambodian setting. Malaysia’s Abnormal Studios is introducing it as the centerpiece of its slate at Busan’s Asian Contents & Film Market, with sales taking place before the movie opens locally.
Its protagonist, Dalin, is a single mother and bridalwear designer in Phnom Penh. Her long hours at work have distanced her from Mina, her ten-year-old daughter. When she learns her illness is fatal, she starts arranging what she believes Mina will need to live well after she is gone.
This remake may resonate with Cambodian audiences by placing a familiar mother-daughter story in Phnom Penh. It could draw attention to single parents, caregiving, and the emotional weight of preparing a child for loss. Its market presence may also signal growing regional interest in Cambodian-language productions, potentially creating more opportunities for local actors and crews. However, actual social impact would depend on distribution, reception, and how thoughtfully the themes are handled.
