Philippines Overhauls Co-Production Fund With Two Tiers at Busan Market

The Philippines has restructured its International Co-Production Fund into two tracks, with support amounts determined by the level of Filipino participation. The Film Philippines Office introduced the new framework during the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Contents & Film Market. Under the Majority Track, Filipino-led features and series can receive up to about $210,000, while documentaries and shorts can receive up to about $80,000.
The Philippines’ International Co-Production Fund now operates through minority and majority tracks, with funding levels linked to how much Filipino participation a project has. The Film Philippines Office presented this framework during the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Contents & Film Market.
Under the Majority Track, Filipino producers lead projects made with overseas partners. Features and series may receive as much as PHP13 million, about $210,000, while documentaries and shorts may receive up to PHP5 million, roughly $80,000.
The revamped fund could give Filipino producers and creative teams a clearer path to international co-productions, potentially expanding work for local cast, crew, and production services. Documentary and short filmmakers may also benefit from dedicated support ceilings. If more projects move forward, global audiences might see a wider range of Filipino-led stories. Foreign partners could find new collaboration opportunities, though actual impact will depend on how many projects qualify and complete.
