D.C. Reentry Office Leader Killed in Electric Scooter Collision

Talib Shakir, who directed the Mayor’s Office of Returning Citizen Affairs, died Friday night after an electric scooter crash in Eastern Market. Police said he collided with another scooter rider at 8th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue SE and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Shakir, 50, had served 25 years in federal prison and later wrote a book about his reentry into public service.
