Nvidia Explores Options for Reflection AI, Including a Full Buyout

Nvidia is reportedly in early discussions to either expand its investment in Reflection AI or acquire the startup outright. The company already holds an $800 million stake, and Reflection was last valued at $25 billion before new funding. Possible outcomes include a full purchase, hiring its team and licensing technology, or simply increasing Nvidia's equity stake.
Nvidia’s reported talks with Reflection AI remain preliminary, and the Financial Times says a transaction might be completed in weeks or could collapse. Nvidia already owns an $800 million stake. Reflection’s most recent known valuation was $25 billion pre-money, as its CEO told CNBC in April.
Nvidia reported roughly $127 billion in free cash flow over the past four quarters and held $56.6 billion in cash, equivalents, and marketable debt securities as of July 26. A $25 billion deal would equal about one-fifth of that annual cash generation and leave about $31.6 billion of the July balance before other spending.
If Nvidia deepens its Reflection AI ties or buys the startup, AI model development could become more concentrated among a few large firms. Developers and businesses using open-weight coding and agentic tools may see changes in pricing, access, or innovation. Reflection employees could face integration, retention, or acqui-hire outcomes. Regulators may examine competition and merger-review questions. The public might get faster AI products, but independent alternatives could shrink.
