Modded PS5 Can Run PS2 Discs Through PCSX2 Port

A modder has released a native PCSX2 emulator port for jailbroken PS5 consoles, enabling PS2 games to run from physical discs. The emulator copies disc data to the console's storage before launching the game, and external USB disc drives are also supported. The PS5's built-in drive cannot read CDs, so CD-based PS2 titles remain incompatible.
The mod, credited to Sword, runs on jailbroken PS5 hardware and uses a native PCSX2 build. It accepts PS2 discs from any region, plus common image formats such as ISO, CHD, CSO, and ZSO. Because the console's own drive cannot read CDs, CD-based PS2 releases remain unsupported; this is an optical hardware limit rather than a software gap.
The port also offers optional improvements: resolution scaling up to six times for 4K output, filters, widescreen and 60fps patches for some titles, and community-server online play via an emulated network adapter. Sword has indicated PS3 disc support is planned through an RPCS3 port. A homebrew developer has noted that PS4 and PS5 disc identification was designed to recognize PS1, PS2, and PS3 games.
