Amazon eyes $7B purchase of AI optimization startup Decart

Amazon is reportedly negotiating to acquire AI startup Decart for about $7 billion. Decart's software optimizes AI models across NVIDIA GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon Trainium chips, and it also develops video and world models. The talks are early and no agreement has been reached, according to reports, and Decart previously drew interest from Anthropic and NVIDIA.
Decart was formed in September 2023 and now has over 60 staff, with more than $450 million raised. Its optimization layer, DOS, is designed to improve model performance across NVIDIA GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon Trainium. It also created Lucy, a real-time video/world model for virtual try-ons, and Oasis, an interactive world model.
Amazon’s reported interest follows earlier suitors. Anthropic reportedly considered a roughly $6 billion deal in 2026 but left after due diligence in September. NVIDIA also showed interest, according to the material. Amazon is already a significant Anthropic backer, adding a notable connection to the talks.
If completed, Amazon’s ownership of a cross-platform optimizer could reshape how AI developers choose hardware, potentially making Amazon chips more attractive while raising questions about continued neutrality toward NVIDIA and Google. Cloud customers, startups, and researchers may see changes in cost, access, and tooling. Shoppers could encounter more interactive video or virtual try-on features. The talks remain early, so any societal effects are uncertain and may depend on whether the deal closes and how Decart’s products are managed afterward.
