Houthis Report Capture of Taiz District as Siege Pressure Grows

The Houthis said they drove Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces out of al-Masrakh district in Taiz province on October 11. Earlier reports said government-aligned forces had retaken the district center after Houthi fighters entered it, while clashes continued around the al-Aqroudh front. Houthi media also showed footage of repelling reinforcements moving from Lahj toward the al-Wazi’iyah highlands, as local authorities warned that the siege of Taiz city was tightening.
On October 11, the Houthi movement said its forces pushed Saudi-backed Yemeni government troops out of al-Masrakh district in Taiz province. Earlier accounts indicated government-aligned units had regained the district center after Houthi fighters entered it, while fighting persisted near al-Aqroudh.
Houthi military media also circulated video of what it called the defeat of reinforcements moving from Lahj toward al-Wazi’iyah highlands. The group claimed its fighters secured Wadi Sharira and nearby high ground toward al-Shamaytayn, capturing personnel and equipment. Local officials warned that Taiz city’s encirclement was becoming tighter, with roads turning into battle lines.
If fighting around Taiz continues, civilians in the city and nearby districts could face greater difficulty reaching markets, hospitals, and safe areas, while aid deliveries may be delayed or rerouted. Families already displaced by shifting front lines might see further separation or renewed movement. Local businesses and public services may also struggle as access roads become contested. The situation could increase humanitarian needs regardless of which armed force holds specific territory, though the full impact will depend on how long clashes persist and whether supply routes remain open.
