TSMC on track for sixth straight record quarter as AI chip demand stays strong

TSMC reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of NT$1.49 trillion, about $46.71 billion, up 50% from a year earlier and above its own guidance. The chipmaker is expected to post net profit near NT$740.8 billion, a 64% year-over-year increase and its sixth consecutive record quarter. High-performance computing, including AI chips, made up 66% of its second-quarter revenue, and TSMC now expects full-year 2026 revenue growth slightly above 40% in US dollar terms.
TSMC's third-quarter 2026 top line reached NT$1.49 trillion, roughly $46.71 billion, exceeding both its July guidance range of $44.6–$45.8 billion and an LSEG SmartEstimate of NT$1.46 trillion. September revenue alone was NT$511.86 billion, up 54.6% from a year earlier.
The expected Q3 net profit of about NT$740.8 billion would be 64% higher year over year and extend a record streak to six quarters. In Q2, high-performance computing represented 66% of revenue, while 7nm-and-smaller nodes accounted for 77% of wafer revenue.
TSMC's continued record results may reinforce the centrality of advanced chips to the global economy. Investors and employees could benefit through stronger returns and job demand, while technology users may see AI services expand—though costs and supply constraints could also shape device prices. Communities in Taiwan, Arizona, and other expansion sites may experience new investment and infrastructure pressure. The broader effect depends on whether AI demand remains durable and benefits spread beyond chipmakers.
