Google to unveil Fitbit Edge as Charge 6 replacement

Google has teased a new fitness tracker called the Fitbit Edge, expected to launch today as the successor to the Charge 6. Leaks suggest it will have a larger AMOLED always-on display, GPS, NFC, heart-rate tracking, and up to seven days of battery life, with a price around $180. It is said to work with iOS and Android, and some AI coaching features may need a Google Health Premium subscription.
Google's teaser appeared through its Google Health social accounts, showing a gold-toned case, a side button, and a sliver of silicone band. Leaks from Android Headlines and Evan Blass had already pointed to the Edge name, after earlier speculation that a Charge 7 was coming.
The device is expected to use Fitbit's own platform rather than Wear OS, with a 1.34-inch AMOLED display that stays on, Bluetooth, IP68 rating, and more than 40 workout modes. Leaked colors include Canyon, Olive, Fog, and Obsidian, with several metal finishes. UK and European pricing is rumored at £159 and €179.
A lower-cost fitness tracker with broad phone compatibility may appeal to casual exercisers, older adults, and budget-conscious buyers who want health metrics without a smartwatch. If AI coaching sits behind a subscription, access to deeper insights could depend on willingness to pay, potentially widening gaps between basic tracking and premium guidance. Google's push may also intensify competition in wearables, encouraging rivals to improve battery life, sensors, and cross-platform support.
