Tesla's China-Made EV Deliveries Rise 5% in September

Tesla's Shanghai factory shipped 95,366 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in September, up 5% from a year earlier, according to China Passenger Car Association data. The figures include exports to Europe, Asia Pacific, and Canada, and mark an 11th consecutive month of year-over-year growth. For the third quarter, China-made sales rose 13.7%, though global deliveries slipped 2.1% from a record prior-year quarter.
Tesla's Shanghai plant delivered 95,366 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in September, 5% more than the same month last year. That followed a 3.6% annual increase in August and marked an 11th straight month of yearly gains. These shipments include exports to Europe, Asia Pacific, and Canada.
For Q3, sales of Shanghai-made vehicles increased 13.7% annually, while worldwide deliveries declined 2.1% against a record prior-year quarter. Tesla is offering 7,000 yuan off certain Model Y final payments and 5,000 yuan off all Model 3 versions through October. In Q2, automotive profitability excluding regulatory credits slipped to 16.3% from 19.2%.
Steady Shanghai output and discounts could help more consumers in China and export markets access EVs, while workers and suppliers linked to the plant may see more stable demand. Investors may weigh monthly delivery gains against thinner margins and global delivery softness. If discounting persists, it could pressure industry profitability, but it may also support broader electric-vehicle adoption and competition.
