Google offers Egyptian university students a free year of Gemini AI Plus

Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced a partnership with Google to give university students over 18 free access to Google Gemini AI Plus for one year. The offer is part of the One Million Egyptian Students Innovate with Gemini initiative and includes training programs throughout the year. Students can register until December 31, 2026, for a subscription valued at about 3,000 Egyptian pounds.
Egypt’s communications ministry and Google are jointly offering eligible university students aged 18 and older a no-cost annual Gemini AI Plus subscription. Registration remains open through 31 December 2026, and the package is valued at roughly 3,000 Egyptian pounds.
The initiative also includes year-round training sessions. Participants can use Gemini and Gemini Notebook for study summaries, exam preparation, audio overviews, and research, plus 400 GB cloud storage. Other discounted Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium options are available, following an earlier Egyptian student offer that expanded to several Arab countries.
This may broaden AI tool access for Egyptian undergraduates, especially those who cannot afford paid subscriptions. It could help with research, revision, and digital skills, potentially improving readiness for tech-driven jobs. Universities and instructors may see changing study habits, while reliance on AI raises questions about academic integrity and equitable internet access. The training component could matter as much as the free subscription, if participation reaches students beyond major cities.
