OnePlus 16 Brings Bigger Battery and Newer Chip Than OnePlus 15

OnePlus 16 has launched in China as the company’s 2026 flagship and is expected to remain its main high-end model through 2027. It carries Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, compared with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the OnePlus 15, and offers a 9000mAh battery versus 7300mAh. The newer model also adds system-wide 165Hz refresh rate support, with 185Hz available in certain apps.
The OnePlus 16 is now available in China, serving as OnePlus’s 2026 flagship and expected to stay its main high-end model through 2027. It moves from the OnePlus 15’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, while raising battery capacity from 7,300mAh to 9,000mAh.
Beyond core specs, the newer model adds system-wide 165Hz refresh support, with 185Hz in select apps, and a 200MP main camera versus the OnePlus 15’s 50MP. Both retain 50MP telephoto and ultra-wide sensors and omit Hasselblad rear branding. OnePlus also cites a redesigned zoned vapor chamber, G3 networking chip, and Lingxi touch chip.
For consumers, especially mobile gamers, creators, and heavy users, the OnePlus 16’s larger battery and higher refresh support could mean longer sessions and less frequent charging. The upgraded chip and camera may raise expectations for flagship performance, potentially pressuring rivals to match these specifications. However, such advances could also increase device cost, weight, or energy demand, so real-world benefits may vary by usage and region.
