Yemeni government forces strike Houthi targets in Taiz

Forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognized government said they carried out nine air strikes on Houthi positions in Taiz governorate. A Yemeni rights group reported that Houthi shelling killed at least five civilians, including a child, and injured 17 others in the previous day. Clashes between government forces and the Houthis were also ongoing south of Taiz.
Government-linked forces reported nine air strikes across Taiz, with five hitting Dhubab and four al-Masrakh. Clashes reportedly continued in al-Shaqab, south of the governorate. A Yemeni rights monitor said Houthi shelling over the prior day killed five civilians, among them a five-year-old girl, wounded 17, damaged seven homes and involved more than 180 projectiles.
Yemen's war began in 2014 when Houthi forces took Sanaa and pushed the government out. A Saudi-led coalition entered in 2015. A UN-backed 2022 truce reduced most fighting, but tensions rose after a Houthi naval blockade in July and a September offensive near Mocha and the Bab al-Mandeb strait.
The renewed strikes and shelling could deepen civilian suffering in Taiz, where residents, children and displaced families may face further injury, loss of housing and limited access to aid. Continued clashes near southern and coastal routes may also disrupt trade and humanitarian deliveries, potentially raising prices and straining hospitals. If fighting spreads, more people could be forced to flee, while peace and relief efforts may become harder to sustain.
