The War and Treaty, the husband-and-wife pairing of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, will receive the first Origins Vanguard Award at the third Origins Impact Awards on Nov. 19 at Nashville’s Woolworth Theatre. Their career crosses country, Americana, soul and roots, with two Grammy nominations—including best new artist—and three CMA vocal duo of the year nods.
Origins Music Group also named finalists in 18 categories, with names such as Breland, Blanco Brown, K. Michelle, Nappy Roots, Pynk Beard, The Boykinz, Gustavo Mioto, RVSHVD, Shy Carter, Kashus Culpepper, Camille Parker, The Kentucky Gentlemen, MŌRIAH, Angie K and Dalton Dover. The honor spotlights acts whose influence has helped move country forward and create chances for other artists.
The awards may broaden public perceptions of country music by centering artists from varied backgrounds and styles. That could help audiences see more inclusive possibilities, while giving nominated and honored musicians greater visibility, industry connections, and career momentum. Nashville’s music community and fans might also encounter a wider range of voices, though the ceremony’s long-term social effect will depend on how media, labels, and listeners respond.
