Apple seeds fresh beta software for multiple AirPods models

Apple released beta firmware build 9B5043a for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, AirPods 5, and AirPods Max 2. The update is available to developers and public beta testers, but Apple did not provide release notes. Installing it requires connecting the AirPods to an Apple device and power, and the process can take several hours.
Apple's newest AirPods test build carries the identifier 9B5043a. It is intended for the five listed earbud and headphone lines, spanning AirPods Pro 2 and Pro 3, AirPods 4 and 5, and AirPods Max 2. Developers and members of Apple's public beta program can obtain it.
Because Apple does not publish changelogs for AirPods beta software, testers cannot yet know what changed. Installation is handled through the AirPods settings on a paired iPhone, iPad, or Mac running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later, with beta updates enabled. The accessories must also be connected to power, and the process may take hours.
This beta release may mainly affect early adopters, developers, and public testers who opt into pre-release AirPods firmware. If it addresses bugs or improves features, those users could see better stability or performance before general customers. Because details are undisclosed, broader impact remains uncertain; most AirPods owners may not notice changes until a stable version arrives. The multi-hour installation process could also discourage casual users from participating.
