EY and Watershed team up on emissions measurement and sustainability reporting
EY has partnered with sustainability software company Watershed to help organizations improve environmental measurement and reporting. The collaboration combines EY US advisory and program management services with Watershed’s AI platform for carbon data, emissions calculations, and reporting. The companies say the alliance will support audit-ready data, product carbon footprinting, and decarbonization planning.
EY US and Watershed have created an alliance to help companies manage environmental measurement and reporting. The arrangement combines EY US services in advice, implementation, and program oversight with Watershed's AI-based sustainability tool. EY says the goal includes data suitable for audits, automatically calculated greenhouse gas figures, and reporting systems that can grow with an organization.
Watershed's software is used by businesses including Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr Martens. Its platform draws on over 3.2 million emissions factors and employs climate scientists and policy specialists. The firms state the partnership also addresses measuring products' carbon footprints, planning, and advisory work tied to reducing emissions.
This alliance may make corporate climate disclosures more consistent and verifiable, affecting investors, regulators, consumers, and supply-chain partners who rely on emissions information. Smaller suppliers could face pressure to provide better data, while software and advisory firms may gain influence over how sustainability performance is defined. If adopted widely, improved measurement could help direct decarbonization efforts, though the actual environmental benefit would depend on whether organizations act on the insights.
