Bitcoin Retreats After Briefly Topping $84,000 Ahead of U.S. Data

Bitcoin touched $84,000 on Wednesday morning but fell back to about $83,200, down 0.5% for the day. The cryptocurrency has been trading between its 50-day moving average near $81,000 and resistance at $84,000. Market attention is on Nasdaq futures, upcoming bank earnings, and September inflation data for clues on risk assets.
Bitcoin briefly reached $84,000 Wednesday morning, then slipped to roughly $83,200, a 0.5% daily decline. It remains bounded by its 50-day moving average near $81,000 and resistance at $84,000. FxPro’s Alex Kuptsikevich noted that institutions treat Bitcoin like the Nasdaq 100, so cautious stock sentiment restrains bigger advances.
Among major coins, ZEC and TRX each added about 1%, while HYPE dropped 2% to around $81. Solana lost 1.4%, and Ether fell 1% to just under $2,500. Traders are watching Nasdaq futures, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley earnings, and September inflation data for risk-asset direction.
Bitcoin’s range-bound trading could affect retail and institutional investors, crypto exchanges, and firms with digital-asset exposure. If it fails near $84,000 while tech shares and inflation data stay uncertain, some holders may reduce risk, potentially dampening market sentiment. A decisive break higher may draw more attention to crypto, though volatility could still expose smaller investors to sharp losses.
