Britain Tells Travelers to Avoid Venezuela Entirely

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office upgraded its Venezuela advice to a blanket 'do not travel' warning in mid-October 2026. The guidance cites violent crime, political instability, border insecurity, and weak health infrastructure, and notes limited consular assistance. Travelers who ignore the warning may lose insurance coverage, and some airlines or tour operators may suspend services.
Earlier UK guidance drew distinctions between Venezuelan regions, rating some less restrictively. The mid-October 2026 revision removes that nuance, placing the whole country under one severe advisory. The FCDO also stresses that British officials inside Venezuela can offer only minimal face-to-face help, so visitors should prepare contingency plans that assume no evacuation.
Risk factors cited include organized crime on city streets and transport corridors, with robbery, abduction and vehicle theft reported. Other governments have tracked worsening conditions since early 2026, including clashes involving armed groups and militias near Caracas and border areas. Irregular armed groups controlling some routes, plus medicine shortages, limited hospital space and utility failures, further complicate travel.
The upgraded warning could deter UK leisure and business travelers, complicating visits to family or commercial partners. Airlines
