UK Expands Top-Level Venezuela Travel Warning Across Most of Country

The UK updated its Venezuela travel advice on October 14, 2026, placing nearly the entire country under red or orange warnings. Red zones include border areas with Colombia, Brazil, and Guyana, Amazonas state, the Orinoco Mining Arc, and Zulia state, while the rest is marked 'all but essential travel.' The FCDO warns that ignoring the guidance could invalidate travel insurance and urges British nationals already there to have independent emergency plans.
The 14 October 2026 FCDO update places nearly all of Venezuela under its two highest travel warnings. Red zones cover 40-kilometre border belts with Colombia, Brazil and Guyana, all of Amazonas, Zulia, the Orinoco Mining Arc in Bolívar, and Delta Amacuro south of the Orinoco. The remaining territory, including Caracas and Maracaibo, is orange for all but essential travel.
The accompanying PDF map shows no green or yellow areas. Tracking tools indicate restrictions widened through 2026. The FCDO cites crime, armed groups in border and mining zones, and infrastructure and economic problems that could hinder emergency responses. It warns that ignoring advice may void insurance and urges British nationals to prepare independent emergency plans.
British travellers, expatriates and business or aid visitors already in Venezuela may face greater uncertainty, as insurers could treat ignored warnings as grounds to deny claims. Families and employers may need to reassess contingency plans, while local tourism and hospitality providers that rely on international visitors could see further declines. The advisory may also encourage other governments or travel firms to review their own risk assessments, potentially narrowing routes and services available to affected communities.
