Canadian Solar, Ib Vogt and Trina Storage move storage and solar plans forward

e-STORAGE, a Canadian Solar unit, began commissioning the 240 MW/960 MWh Summerfield battery in South Australia, with full commercial operation expected in 2027. Ib Vogt received approvals for Australian projects including 288 MW of solar and 480 MW/1,920 MWh of batteries across New South Wales, Tasmania, and Victoria. Trina Storage won a contract to supply batteries for the 50 MW/196 MWh Nozu project in Japan.
Canadian Solar’s e-STORAGE has moved the Summerfield site near Mannum, South Australia, into testing. The 240 MW/960 MWh facility uses over 200 SolBank 3.0 containers under a turnkey EPC arrangement, with long-term upkeep and a decade-long Origin Energy offtake. Intera Renewables, tied to Palisade Investment Partners, owns it; commercial service is targeted for 2027.
Ib Vogt has cleared planning and grid steps for Australian solar and storage: Wagga North in NSW, Cimitiere Plains in Tasmania, and Giddi in Victoria. Trina Storage will equip Japan’s Nozu project in Oita, developed by Nozomi Energy, with completion set for 2028.
These projects may affect local workforces, landowners, and electricity users in Australia and Japan. Storage additions could improve grid flexibility and support more renewable generation, potentially aiding reliability during peak demand. Nearby communities might see construction jobs and infrastructure activity, while benefits depend on grid connections, market rules, and project timelines. Consumers could experience indirect effects on power costs, though outcomes remain uncertain.
