Telangana opens 3 GW solar procurement tied to 6 GWh battery storage
TGREDCO, acting for Telangana's discom, has invited bids to develop 3,000 MW of solar PV paired with 1,000 MW/6,000 MWh of energy storage. The projects will use a build-own-operate model and 25-year power purchase agreements, with bids due by November 4, 2026. Developers must include at least 0.333 MW/2 MWh of storage for every 1 MW contracted and may bid between 50 MW and 1,500 MW.
TGREDCO is seeking developers for 3,000 MW of solar capacity paired with 1,000 MW/6,000 MWh storage in Telangana. The chosen bidders would own and operate the plants, handle land, installation, grid links, and transmission to the delivery point, and sell power under 25-year agreements. Supply from the full capacity is expected within two years of the PPA taking effect.
Bids may range from 50 MW to 1,500 MW in 10 MW increments. Each megawatt contracted requires at least 0.333 MW/2 MWh of storage. Proposals are due November 4, 2026. Financial rules include a Rs 20,000 per MW processing fee plus GST, a Rs 15.93 million per MW earnest deposit, and a Rs 16 million per MW net-worth threshold.
This procurement may expand Telangana's clean power supply and support grid reliability by adding batteries. Local landowners, construction workers, and energy consumers could see economic or employment effects, while developers face financing and execution demands. Because storage and transmission are included, the tender may encourage more flexible renewable integration, though outcomes depend on bidder participation, timely approvals, and cost recovery.
