Ericsson to Merge Asian Markets and Scrap Enterprise Wireless Unit in 2027 Overhaul

Ericsson will reorganize its global operations and executive team beginning January 1, 2027. It is combining its North East Asia and South East Asia, Oceania and India divisions into a single Market Area Asia-Pacific. The company is also dismantling its Enterprise Wireless business and moving private 5G and neutral host capabilities into its main network units.
Ericsson’s changes begin Jan. 1, 2027. It will combine North East Asia with South East Asia, Oceania and India into Market Area Asia-Pacific. Patrick Johansson, now leading EMEA, will head the new unit, while Ericsson recruits his EMEA replacement. Chafic Nassif and Andres Vicente will manage transition duties before leaving their posts on Dec. 31, 2026.
The company is also dissolving Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions. Neutral host and private 5G offerings will join Business Area Networks, while Wireless WAN becomes a separate unit under Yossi Cohen, who leads Market Area Americas. Åsa Tamsons will supervise integration before departing Dec. 31, 2026. Ericsson says the redesign aims for leaner leadership, stronger R&D coordination, and closer country-level customer work.
The reorganization may affect Ericsson employees and executives in affected regions, as roles shift or end. Telecom operators and enterprises in Asia-Pacific could see more coordinated support, while private 5G and neutral host users may benefit from tighter integration into core networks. If R&D synergies materialize, AI agents and low-latency applications could reach more industrial settings, though transition disruptions may temporarily slow some deployments.
