Russian attacks damage 28 energy sites across Ukraine, leaving 550,000 homes without power

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian strikes hit 28 substations and other key energy facilities across Ukraine. At least 550,000 households lost electricity overnight, and one energy worker was injured in Vinnytsia Oblast. The attacks targeted 11 regions and involved ballistic missiles and more than 200 drones, with repair work slowed by air raid alerts.
Zelensky said 28 substations and other critical energy sites were hit. At least 550,000 households lost power. Nekrasov said 11 oblasts were targeted, with outages in four more; one worker was injured in Vinnytsia Oblast. Russia launched 16 ballistic missiles and over 200 drones in waves, which Zelensky called a focused attack on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.
Repair work is slowed by air raid alerts and strike risks. Nekrasov said the past week brought 87 targeted attacks on energy, oil, and gas, with 224 damaging incidents. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said 2,147 attacks on energy infrastructure since July 16. Zelensky noted Patriot interceptor shortages and plans to boost anti-drone turret production.
The loss of power may disrupt heating, water, communications, and medical services for hundreds of thousands, especially as winter approaches. Families, older people, hospitals, schools, and businesses could face disrupted routines and heightened uncertainty. Repair crews may be exposed to danger while restoring service. Continued strikes could deepen stress and strain local budgets, while energy shortages may affect daily routines and economic activity.
