Orygen solar testing, Tunisia storage tender and EnergyX lithium deal headline renewables update

Orygen's 94.22 MW Wayra solar plant in southern Peru has reached full-capacity grid testing as part of a larger 403.52 MW renewable complex, with commercial operation targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026. Tunisia's STEG opened an international tender for a 50 MWac solar farm with 10 MW/20 MWh of battery storage at Beni Mhira, with bids due December 10 and EBRD support. EnergyX signed a $2 billion, 10-year lithium offtake deal with Trafigura covering 100,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide and carbonate from planned Chile and Texas facilities, targeting production in 2028.
Orygen’s Wayra solar installation in Nasca Province has completed tests at maximum output while connected to the grid, contractor PowerChina said. The 94.22 MW photovoltaic array belongs to a 403.52 MW complex that also includes Wayra I and Wayra Extension wind farms. Expected annual generation is about 250–256 GWh, with commercial operation planned for late 2026.
Tunisia’s STEG is seeking international bids by December 10 for a 50 MWac solar farm and 10 MW/20 MWh battery at Beni Mhira, backed by the EBRD. EnergyX and Trafigura signed a $2 billion, decade-long offtake for 100,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium from planned Chile and Texas facilities.
These developments could affect local workforces, grid operators, and nearby communities through construction activity and additional renewable electricity. Tunisia’s storage component may improve grid reliability, while the lithium agreement may shape future battery-material supply for manufacturers and consumers. Benefits and disruptions may depend on permitting, financing, and timely commissioning, so social outcomes remain uncertain.
