U.S. Buyers Face Two-Unit Cap on iPhone Duo Orders

Apple's U.S. online store and app now restrict each customer to two iPhone Duo units, showing a notice when more are added. The limit was already listed in some other markets, though its exact start in the U.S. is unclear. Preorder stock sold out quickly, and some delivery estimates have since moved earlier.
Apple's U.S. online and app stores now block shoppers from ordering more than two iPhone Duos. The restriction appears only after a customer tries to add a third unit, rather than being posted beforehand. Similar two-unit caps were already visible in China, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
It is unclear whether the U.S. cap existed when preorders opened on October 16. Some Reddit posters said they bought four, while others reported being stopped at two. Initial launch-day inventory disappeared within minutes, pushing many estimated deliveries to November or December; Apple has since advanced some dates.
The two-unit cap may affect resellers, families, and small businesses that hoped to buy several iPhone Duos at once. It could reduce bulk purchases for resale, potentially making launch inventory last longer for individual shoppers. At the same time, legitimate multi-device buyers may need extra accounts or orders, creating inconvenience. If delivery estimates keep improving, the limit's practical impact could be limited, though demand and resale activity may still shape availability.
