Overnight Russian Strikes Kill Two in Kharkiv Region

Russian drones hit the settlement of Korotych in Kharkiv district early on October 21, killing an 81-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man and damaging homes. Eleven other residents, including two children, suffered acute stress reactions. Ukraine reported 98 drones and six missiles launched overnight, with 58 drones intercepted or suppressed, and strikes also affected Kremenchuk, Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Chernihiv regions.
The strike in Korotych, within Kharkiv district, damaged 13 private houses, a vehicle and an outbuilding that fire destroyed. Besides the two elderly people killed, 11 residents needed medical help for acute stress, among them a two-month-old infant and an eight-year-old girl.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia fired two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, four S-300 missiles and 98 drones, about 70 of them Shahed-type. By 8:30 a.m., 58 drones had been downed or electronically suppressed; missiles and 37 attack drones hit 10 sites, with debris at two more. A Kremenchuk educational building caught fire, injuring at least one person.
The deaths and damage in Korotych may deepen insecurity among older residents and families in a small settlement, while acute stress reactions among children and a baby could increase demand for psychological and medical support. Repeated strikes across several regions may disrupt daily routines, schooling and transport, and stretch emergency services, though the full social impact will depend on how quickly repairs and assistance reach affected households.
