Yemen's Houthis Show Drone Attacks on Saudi Border Troops

Houthi media released video on October 20 showing Rujum drones attacking Saudi troops, barracks, and vehicles near the Jizan and Asir border areas. The group said this was the first use of those drones on those fronts and claimed damage to tanks, depots, and supply sites. The release follows reports of growing casualties and a recent Houthi claim that it downed a Saudi helicopter near Najran.
Houthi outlets published video on Oct. 20 that they said showed Rujum unmanned aircraft striking Saudi army positions in the Jizan and Asir border zones. The footage presented attacks on soldiers, barracks and vehicles; the group described the operation as the Rujum’s debut on those sectors and said surveillance supported simultaneous, coordinated hits.
According to the account, the Rujum is a modified Chinese YD6-1000S hexacopter bomber able to fly for 44 minutes and carry 2 kg, fitted for munitions such as 60 mm mortars. Houthi statements asserted that tanks, weapons depots and rear supply hubs were destroyed and defensive barriers breached; no official overall casualty toll has been released.
The reported border escalation could heighten insecurity for civilians and military personnel on both sides, may disrupt local movement and trade, and could increase pressure on health and emergency services. It may also sharpen public anxiety in border communities and shape wider regional perceptions of risk, while official casualty figures remain unclear. Because claims come from one side and are not independently verified here, the social impact may depend on how the episode is reported and whether fighting expands.
