Nokia and Nvidia point to expanding AI-RAN trials

Nokia and Nvidia say their AI-RAN collaboration is gaining traction, with nearly 20 network operators preparing laboratory or commercial tests. The partners expect trials involving BT, Deutsche Telekom and Elisa in 2027, while T-Mobile US has already completed a live AI-RAN call. Orange is also using the technology for new enterprise voice and intelligence services.
The Nokia-Nvidia AI-RAN tie-up was announced a year before the Berlin GTC 2026 update, with Nvidia committing $1 billion to Nokia. Nearly 20 operators worldwide, including 10 in EMEA, are now engaged at laboratory or commercial-trial stages.
BT, Deutsche Telekom and Elisa are slated for 2027 trials, and Elisa is preparing commercial deployment. T-Mobile US has completed an AI-RAN call over a live network, while Orange is deploying the technology for business-focused voice and intelligence offerings. Executives point to spectrum-efficiency gains and a narrowing gap between network and computing infrastructure.
The spread of AI-RAN trials could affect mobile users through potentially more efficient networks and new enterprise services, while operators may face new integration and skills demands. Equipment vendors and cloud/AI suppliers could see shifting competitive dynamics as telecom and computing boundaries blur. Network operations workers may need retraining, and businesses could gain new voice and intelligence tools. Benefits and costs may vary by market and deployment pace, so early trials might not quickly produce widespread consumer changes.
