Google Cloud adds OpenAI's GPT-6 family and Codex to its model catalog

OpenAI plans to make its GPT-6 models and Codex coding tools available through Google Cloud's Model Garden, with a private preview already running and broader access expected soon. The lineup includes Astra, Sol and Luna, and customers can buy through Google Cloud Marketplace on one invoice while applying existing cloud commitments. Cached input for GPT-6.1 Sol is priced at $0.10 per million tokens, one-twentieth of its standard input rate.
OpenAI plans to offer GPT-6 models and Codex coding tools through Google Cloud’s Model Garden. A limited early-access trial is running, with broader availability expected soon. The lineup includes Astra as the flagship, Sol as a lower-cost near-flagship, and Luna as a fast, economical option.
Buyers can use Google Cloud Marketplace for a single bill and apply existing cloud commitments; usage also counts toward Flexible Savings Plans. Cached GPT-6.1 Sol input costs $0.10 per million tokens, one-twentieth of its $2 standard input rate. Google says it is the only hyperscale cloud with Gemini, Claude, and GPT together, while OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
Enterprises and developers may gain more procurement flexibility if OpenAI models sit alongside Gemini and Claude on Google Cloud, potentially simplifying billing and letting existing cloud commitments cover AI usage. Lower cached-input pricing could make high-volume, repetitive workloads more affordable, while broader model choice may reduce lock-in concerns. At the same time, concentrating more AI spending through a few cloud marketplaces could make cost governance and vendor oversight more important for organizations adopting these tools.
