Two Women Killed as Russian Munitions Hit Lozova Market

A daytime attack on a market in Lozova, in the Kharkiv region, killed two women and wounded 36 other people, according to local officials. The strike reportedly used a jet-powered Shahed drone and a Banderol missile and damaged market pavilions, homes, apartments, vehicles, and a church. Two of the injured were treated for severe stress responses.
Local officials said the strike hit Lozova’s central market around lunchtime on Oct. 22, 2026. The dead were women aged 50 and 60; of the 36 wounded, two were treated for acute stress and others had injuries of varying severity, with some hospitalized in serious condition.
The attack also damaged market stalls, homes, apartment blocks, nearby shops, a church and private cars, according to regional authorities. On the same day, a jet-powered Shahed drone hit a private house in the Zhytomyr community, wounding eight people, including two children.
The strike could deepen fear among Lozova residents and market workers, who may avoid crowded public spaces and rely more on shelters during alerts. Families of the dead and wounded may face grief, medical costs, and disruption, while emergency and municipal services could be stretched by mass-casualty responses and repeated-strike warnings. Damage to homes, shops, a church, and vehicles may also weaken daily routines and local economic activity, though the full social toll may take time to emerge.
