Russian Drone Hits Home Near Zhytomyr, Wounding Eight Including Children

A Russian Shahed drone struck a single-story private house in the Zhytomyr community, injuring eight people, among them two children, according to emergency services. The region lies far from the front line, and the attack followed earlier drone damage to energy infrastructure and homes. Officials initially reported nine wounded before revising the figure.
The strike hit a one-storey privately owned home in the Zhytomyr community on Thursday, Oct. 22. Regional head Vitalii Bunechko first said nine people were hurt, with two taken to a regional hospital; emergency officials later listed eight injured, all hospitalized, without giving injury severity.
The area is in northwestern Ukraine, about 87 miles from Kyiv and distant from the front line. The day before, several jet-powered drone attacks in the region damaged energy infrastructure and eight homes, though no casualties were reported then. Rescue teams, bomb-disposal specialists, psychologists, Red Cross volunteers and others assisted at the scene.
The attack may heighten fear among residents far from the front line, especially families with children, and could increase demand for psychological support and emergency services. Damage to homes and energy sites may disrupt daily routines and local infrastructure, while repeated strikes could strain community preparedness. Volunteers and responders who assist recovery may also face added pressure.
