iOS 27.1 Update Limited to New Foldable iPhone

Apple issued iOS 27.1 only for the newly launched iPhone Duo, requiring buyers to install a newer build during setup. The update contains unspecified bug fixes and no security patches. Other iPhones are already testing iOS 27.2, which is expected next week and will also support the Duo.
Apple made the completed iOS 27.1 release available this week only for the foldable iPhone Duo, which debuted today. Although the handset arrives with iOS 27.1 installed, setup requires a newer build of that same version; an IPSW file for it appeared Thursday. Apple's notes list only unspecified bug fixes and no security updates.
Other compatible iPhones have moved to an iOS 27.2 beta, and that version's release candidate also covers the Duo. Apple is expected to ship iOS 27.2 next week, giving all models a common release. The Duo-only iOS 27.1 release may have been intended to keep device-specific features under wraps until launch.
The immediate effect falls on iPhone Duo buyers, who may face an extra setup step and a newer build before use. Developers and support staff could encounter brief version fragmentation, while other iPhone owners may see little change. Since iOS 27.2 is expected next week and will support the Duo, any disruption may be short-lived. The episode could also shape expectations for how Apple handles device-specific software at launch.
