LEGO Reveals Super Mario Minifigure Sets with Bowser's Castle and Mario Kart Playsets
LEGO has announced its first Super Mario sets with minifigures, including playsets like Bowser's Castle and Mario Kart vehicles. The initial wave features characters such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, with prices from $9.99 to $99.99. All sets are scheduled for release on January 1, 2027.
The initial wave spans eight sets, ranging from a $9.99 pipe-jump vignette to an 850-piece Bowser’s Castle playset at $99.99. Notably, this marks a shift away from the interactive electronic Mario toy unit toward traditional minifigure roleplay, with characters like Toad, Yoshi, and Bowser Jr. appearing as standard figures. A Bowser “big fig” is also included in the flagship set, while the Mario Kart subtheme features vehicles for Luigi, Bowser Jr., and even a buildable cow from Mario Kart World.
All sets are slated for a simultaneous global release on January 1, 2027, according to LEGO’s announcement. The company frames this as a “refreshed” theme centered on creative roleplay, suggesting a broader strategic pivot toward classic brick-building play for the Super Mario license.
This release could significantly expand LEGO’s appeal to both young builders and adult collectors who prefer minifigure-scale displays over the previous interactive gimmick. By aligning with Mario Kart’s popular characters and vehicles, LEGO may tap into nostalgia-driven spending, potentially boosting holiday sales in early 2027. However, the pricing—especially the $99.99 flagship—could limit accessibility for families, though the lower-cost entry points may help maintain broad market reach.
