Starlink Builds More Than 20 India Gateway Sites, Executive Says

Starlink Vice President Lauren Dreyer said at India Mobile Congress 2026 that the company has established over 20 gateway sites and hundreds of antennas in India. She said Starlink has created India-specific security controls and keeps Indian users' data within the country. The company is working with the government, telecom operators, and other stakeholders to expand connectivity, especially last-mile coverage.
At India Mobile Congress 2026, Starlink VP Lauren Dreyer said the company has installed over 20 gateway sites and hundreds of antennas across India. She described India-specific security measures and said Indian users’ data remains inside the country, aligning with local regulatory and data-sovereignty expectations.
Dreyer positioned Starlink as an addition to existing telecom networks, not a substitute. She cited memorandums with Airtel and Jio and talks with state governments, while noting last-mile coverage as a priority and the goal of helping extend connectivity nationwide.
If Starlink integrates with terrestrial networks, rural and remote communities may gain better last-mile access, potentially affecting households, businesses, and public services. Telecom operators could extend coverage without replacing existing infrastructure. Data-localization and security controls may reassure users and regulators. Yet benefits depend on pricing, adoption, and coordination with government and operators.
