Airtel Shows Sovereign Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Quantum Telecom Work to Scindia

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia visited Airtel's booth at India Mobile Congress 2026, where Sunil Bharti Mittal presented the company's digital infrastructure plans. Airtel highlighted sovereign cloud services, sustainable data centres, an AI-driven security operations centre, and quantum telecom research. The presentation also covered work with IIT Delhi on quantum-powered optimization for telecom networks.
At India Mobile Congress 2026, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia toured Airtel's arena, where Sunil Bharti Mittal presented its cloud, data-centre and security work. Airtel Cloud's sovereign setup uses multiple availability zones to help Indian firms meet local data-storage rules and keep essential workloads running.
Mittal also described Nxtra's AI-assisted energy management, an AI-driven iSOC providing layered round-the-clock defence for clients such as Indian Railways and EPFO, and quantum telecom research with IIT Delhi and Bharti Enterprises aimed at more efficient network optimisation.
These sovereign cloud and cybersecurity efforts may affect Indian enterprises, government bodies, and citizens whose data is held by Indian Railways and EPFO. Stronger local data residency could improve trust and service continuity, while AI-driven security may reduce breach risks. Quantum research, if successful, could eventually make telecom networks more efficient and sustainable, potentially lowering costs or improving coverage. But benefits depend on implementation, oversight, and equitable access.
