Bus Strike in Kramatorsk Kills 30; Transport Halted in Donetsk Cities

A Russian strike on a passenger bus in Kramatorsk killed 30 people and wounded 18, according to Donetsk authorities. Public transport was suspended in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk after the attack, and officials urged residents to evacuate. The death toll was updated from an earlier preliminary figure.
The attack occurred on Thursday, Oct. 8, in Kramatorsk, a northern Donetsk region hub that has repeatedly been hit. Initial local reports said at least 12 passengers died and 13 were hurt; later the regional administration revised the toll to 30 dead and 18 wounded.
Donetsk regional head Vadym Filashkin said the bus was carrying passengers and ordered public transport halted in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. He also urged residents to leave for safer areas. Earlier that morning, Ukraine’s Air Force reported Russian use of guided aerial bombs in the region.
The suspension of public transport in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk could disrupt daily movement for residents who rely on buses to reach work, medical care, markets, and evacuation routes. Families of the dead and wounded may face sudden loss, injury, and displacement pressures. If shelling continues, remaining civilians may feel greater urgency to leave, while those unable or unwilling to go could become more isolated. Local authorities’ evacuation calls may shape how communities assess safety and plan for further strikes.
