Girl In Red returns with emotional track 'Blue'

Girl In Red has released 'Blue', her first new song in more than a year, via Columbia Records. The track deals with doubt and the emotional fallout of a breakup, following teasers that included recolored artwork and a changed social media handle. Its music video, directed by Isak Jenssen, was filmed in Oslo and reflects on how heartbreak influenced who she has become.
Marie Ulven, who records as Girl In Red, released "Blue" via Columbia Records. It is her first new music since last summer's "Hemingway." Teasers included recoloring "We Fell In Love In October" artwork from red to blue and changing her Instagram handle and profile image. The song explores uncertainty and breakup loss; Isak Jenssen directed its Oslo-filmed video.
Ulven has said "Hemingway" addressed addiction, an eating disorder, and depression. At Glastonbury 2025, she told NME the vulnerable response moved her and argued addiction should not be shamed. She will appear in Low Expectations, due in the UK and Ireland in early 2027.
The release may resonate with listeners navigating heartbreak, doubt, or recovery, especially young fans who follow Ulven's candid discussions of mental health and addiction. By pairing vulnerable songwriting with visual teasers and an Oslo-set video, she could strengthen conversations around emotional honesty and reduce stigma. Her upcoming acting role may also broaden her reach, potentially drawing film audiences into her music and extending her cultural influence beyond indie-pop circles.
