Greenvolt Power secures EUR 284 million for Romanian wind project
Greenvolt Power has secured EUR 284 million in project financing for its 253.1 MW wind farm at Gurbănești, east of Bucharest, Romania. The project is under construction and is slated to start commercial operations by the end of 2027, using 42 turbines rated at 6.1 MW each. A syndicate of eight financial institutions arranged the financing.
The Romanian scheme will use forty-two turbines, each rated at 6.1 MW, and is being built near Gurbănești, east of Bucharest. Eight lenders formed the financing group, including UniCredit, Erste, Banca Comercială Română, Siemens Bank, Société Générale, BRD, ING, and Alpha Bank.
Greenvolt Power also began building a 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery storage project in Siedlce, Poland, in September 2026. That scheme sits within a 4.6 GW probability-weighted storage pipeline, about 2.4 GW of which is Polish. In August 2026, UniCredit provided €153 million in bridge facilities and a €65 million guarantee for the Ełk and Turośń projects, together 400 MW/1.6 GWh.
If completed as planned, the wind farm could add supply to Romania’s grid and may support local construction jobs and related services near Gurbănești. Households and businesses might see modest longer-term effects on power availability, though outcomes depend on grid connections and market conditions. The lenders and Greenvolt bear financial risk, while nearby residents may experience changes in land use or visual impacts. Benefits and disruptions would likely be distributed unevenly.
