Kishimoto Announces Canon Naruto Sequel Manga at New York Comic Con

Masashi Kishimoto's return to Naruto was announced during the Naruto panel at New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026. The new canon manga, titled Naruto: Shadow Rising, comes roughly 12 years after the original series concluded in 2014. It is set after the Fourth Great Ninja War and has generated widespread excitement among fans.
Kishimoto's original Naruto debuted in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on Sept. 21, 1999, and concluded in 2014 with Chapter 700. The sequel, Naruto: Shadow Rising, was revealed on Oct. 10, 2026, during the Naruto panel at New York Comic Con.
The panel also featured a Naruto x Ninku collaboration anime, a trading card game planned for June 2027, and a global Naruto Mobile release. Shadow Rising is canon and set after the Fourth Great Ninja War, while Kakashi served as Hokage, before Naruto took the role. Sketches showed Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, and Sakura, plus a teaser involving Naruto and Sasuke's late battle.
The revival could re-energize longtime Naruto readers and attract newer fans, potentially lifting demand for manga volumes, merchandise, and convention events. Publishers, booksellers, and digital platforms may benefit from renewed interest in the backlist, while online communities could debate how the new canon fits with existing storylines. Its impact will likely depend on execution and how broadly the sequel is distributed.
