Apple's Next Budget iPad Reportedly Delayed to Early 2027

The next budget iPad lineup, internally called J581 and J582, is not expected to launch until early 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Apple is also said to be preparing a significant iPad Air update with an OLED screen and a new iPad Pro in 2027. A refreshed iPad mini is still anticipated by the end of October this year.
Apple's rumored entry-level iPad refresh, referred to internally as J581 and J582, is now tipped for early 2027 rather than sooner. The report comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who also indicates Apple has broader tablet plans for that year.
Those plans reportedly include a notable iPad Air update featuring an OLED display and a new iPad Pro model. The Pro may adopt a vapor chamber for better thermal management and performance. Meanwhile, a refreshed iPad mini remains expected by the end of October this year.
Consumers planning to buy a lower-cost iPad may need to wait longer or choose current models, which could affect back-to-school or holiday purchasing decisions. Apple's reported 2027 tablet roadmap may also influence accessory makers, app developers, and competitors as they anticipate OLED iPad Air and Pro changes. If the iPad mini arrives this October, it may satisfy some near-term demand, though budget-focused buyers could remain underserved until early 2027.
