Egypt PM reviews urban development agenda ahead of 2026 forum

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with ministers to prepare a session on sustainable urban development for the Egypt Forum 2026, scheduled in the New Administrative Capital from October 19 to 24. The session will cover efforts to upgrade unsafe and unplanned areas, build new cities, expand roads and transport, and implement infrastructure projects. It will also assess the impact of these programs on citizens and outline challenges and targets for the next phase.
The preparatory meeting brought together the local development and environment minister, the housing, utilities and urban communities minister, transport and housing deputy ministers, and a senior Armed Forces Engineering Authority official, among others. They reviewed proposed themes for the sustainable urban development session at Egypt Forum 2026, set for the New Administrative Capital from October 19 to 24.
Discussions covered upgrading unsafe and unplanned areas, new city projects, road and transport networks, infrastructure, and the presidential Hayah Karima initiative for rural villages. The session is also expected to examine how these programs affect residents, identify obstacles, and set next-phase goals and timelines. Organizers want forum debates grounded in accurate data and open enough to address public questions.
The plans could affect residents of unplanned and unsafe areas, new-city communities, and rural villages by changing housing conditions, transport access, and basic services. If implementation follows the stated timelines, citizens may see more predictable upgrades and clearer information about trade-offs. However, outcomes may depend on funding, coordination, and how quickly projects reach affected neighborhoods. Public engagement, if sustained, could help align development with local needs and make government commitments easier to monitor.
