Sumitomo invests in Indian hybrid project as PetroGreen and Koehler advance solar and wind plans

Sumitomo Corporation will take a 49 percent stake in Hero Future Energies' roughly 500 MW solar-wind project with 200 MWh of battery storage in Karnataka, scheduled to start commercial operations in March 2027. PetroGreen Energy secured up to PHP 1.24 billion in financing for a 33 MWac/40 MWdc solar plant in Isabela, Philippines, expected to generate about 59 GWh annually. Koehler Renewable Energy received approval for a 36 MW Scottish wind farm using six Vestas turbines, replacing an earlier eight-turbine proposal.
Sumitomo's stake covers a Karnataka project combining about 500 MW solar and wind with 200 MWh storage. Hero Future Energies keeps 51% via Hero Solar Energy. Output is mainly tied to SJVN through a 25-year purchase agreement, with excess sold into markets; reported value around ₹375 crore remains unconfirmed.
PetroGreen's loan from RCBC supports a two-phase Isabela solar farm. Its first 5 MWac has a supply deal with Isabela II Electric Cooperative; the remaining 28.2 MWac won a Green Energy Auction tariff. Koehler's Scottish approval covers six 6 MW Vestas turbines, down from eight, with a community fund and May 2030 commissioning target. It is expected to produce about 155,430 MWh yearly, enough for roughly 36,000 homes.
These projects may add cleaner generation and storage, potentially improving grid reliability and supporting local jobs or community funds. Households in Karnataka, Isabela, and Dumfries and Galloway could see indirect effects through power supply, land use, and local spending. Investors and utilities may gain from long-term contracts, though construction, market, and financing risks could shape actual outcomes.
