Generate Capital, KeyState finalize $154.5m community solar financing
Generate Capital closed a $154.5 million tax equity fund with SOLCAP, KeyState's tax equity investment platform, to finance 10 community solar projects in New York and Illinois with a combined capacity of 43 MWac. This is the sixth tax equity fund between Generate Capital and KeyState, following an $85 million community solar tax equity fund announced in October 2025. Generate Capital has secured $1.6 billion in financing commitments so far in 2026 to support infrastructure development.
The new fund is the sixth tax-equity vehicle arranged by Generate Capital and KeyState’s SOLCAP platform. It will support ten community solar installations in New York and Illinois, representing 43 MWac. An earlier $85 million community solar tax-equity fund, announced in October 2025, is close to completing its funding.
Generate Capital has now reported $1.6 billion in 2026 financing commitments. In September 2026, it also closed a $117 million MUFG term debt facility for Community Solar Fund 11, covering 18 projects and 114 MWdc in Illinois and New York. First-half 2026 commitments reached about $1.4 billion.
The financing may expand access to locally sited solar for households and businesses in New York and Illinois, potentially lowering energy costs or increasing resilience for subscribers. It could also support construction jobs and local tax revenue. However, benefits depend on project execution, subscription terms, and grid interconnection. Communities hosting projects may see land-use and visual changes, while ratepayers outside programs may experience different outcomes.
