Battery Storage Projects Advance in Utah, Poland, and Romania

Clearway Energy Group has secured financing and started building an additional 210 MW battery storage expansion at its Honeycomb Energy Center in Utah, backed by long-term contracts with PacifiCorp. Tavion began construction on a 20 MW/40 MWh battery project in Bydgoszcz, Poland, scheduled for grid connection in 2027. Parapet and MetaWealth also started a 50 MW/100 MWh battery storage system in Neamț County, Romania, with Kehua supplying power conversion equipment.
Clearway's Honeycomb expansion adds 210 MW in Beaver and Iron counties, bringing its Utah storage portfolio to seven sites and 2,120 MWh. The roughly $400 million build is backed by PacifiCorp contracts and lenders KeyBank, US Bank, NORD/LB, and CoBank; Rosendin is contractor, with at least 150 jobs and about $37 million in added tax receipts for the area.
Tavion's Bydgoszcz project is its first Polish battery site, a two-hour 20 MW/40 MWh system due online in 2027. Esix Polska, HyperStrong, and Ayesa have roles. In Romania, Parapet and MetaWealth are building 50 MW/100 MWh at Dumbrava-Deal, with Kehua conversion equipment and spring 2027 operation target.
These projects could affect local workforces, landowners, and electricity customers in Utah, Poland, and Romania. Construction may create short-term jobs and tax revenue, while storage could help grids integrate renewable power and improve reliability. Ratepayers and utilities may see benefits if storage lowers peak costs, though outcomes depend on contracts, operations, and market rules. Investors and equipment suppliers may gain from expanded deployment, but local impacts remain uncertain.
