Google’s Fitbit Edge fitness tracker arrives with Health Coach and week-long battery

Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker that follows the Charge 6 and offers on-wrist Google Health Coach features. It has an oval design, color options matching the Pixel Watch 5, and about seven days of battery life. The device lacks NFC and stress tracking, and a Steph Curry Edition is available.
Google first showed the Edge unintentionally months before formally announcing it. Positioned as the next core Fitbit screen wearable, it succeeds the Charge 6 and sits between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5. Its oval case, slim bezel, side button, and touch display echo Google’s smartwatch, while color choices align with the Pixel Watch 5. A Steph Curry Edition is also available.
The Edge adds notifications, live workout status, and music controls over the Fitbit Air. Health Coach conversations happen on the wrist, but require Google Health Premium at £7.99/$9.99 monthly. Google claims roughly seven days of battery, though NFC and stress tracking are absent.
The Fitbit Edge may appeal to fitness-focused buyers who want more than a screenless band but less than a full smartwatch. Its on-wrist Health Coach could make guided exercise feel more immediate, though the subscription requirement may limit access. Missing NFC and stress tracking might disappoint some users, while the lower-cost positioning could pressure rival trackers. Overall, it may strengthen Google’s wearable ecosystem, but its social impact likely depends on affordability, privacy expectations, and whether health coaching genuinely changes daily habits.
